Canon PowerShot A2000 IS digital camera

I'm pretty sure the Canon PowerShot A2000 IS camera
is better than the Canon PowerShot A710 IS (7.1 megapixels)
that I bought in June of 2007 for about $280.00 at OfficeDepot.
Before I decided to buy the A710 I did quite a bit of research because
I had to be very careful with my finances.

I think the A710 is no longer widely available.

Point-and-shoot camera

10 megapixels

3" LCD screen
(230,000 pixels)

Has image stablization.

With one hand
can hold camera and at the same time have telephoto control.

Requires two AA batteries.
Batteries can be rechargeable NiMH or alkaline.

I really like my A710, which has a 115.000-pixels 2.5" LCD screen,
but I think the A2000 with a 230,000-pixel 3" LCD screen will probably look
better when taking and reviewing pictures on the camera.

I like the A710 because it is comfortable taking shots with one hand, which for me overrides that fact that it is slightly bigger and heavier than many cameras.

I like the telephoto control on the A710 that is near the top right front of the camera.
The telephoto control is very convenient, which I use a lot.
The PowerShot A2000 and some other Canon PowerShots have similar telephoto control,
but the telephoto control of many other point-and-shoot don't seem to be as convenent.

The "IS" at the end of the model number (e.g. A2000 IS) stands for "image stablization." This stablization of the camera reduces the possiblity of the camera from being shaken when a picture is taken.

I also like the fact that it uses two AA batteries, so if they run out of energy you don't have to look for special batteries.
Another good thing about running off of two AA batteries is that
I can use rechargeable NiMH batteries--I usually have 2 or 4 fully-charged spare batteries nearby.

The A2000 does not have aperture priority or shutter priority options.

I use the Energizer 15-min quick charger (model CH15MNCP-4) to charge my AA batteries.
Click here for more information on Energizer battery chargers.

For those who want to have more control over still shots, the A710 provides 4 exposure modes. With the A710 you can set the shutter speed and the camera will adjust the aperture;
or you can set the aperature and the camera will adjust the aperture.

The A710 can shoot movies for about 4 minutes at 640 x 480 pixels at 30 frames per second,
or about 55 minutes at 160 x 120 pixels at 15 frames per second,
or about 6 minutes at 320 x 240 pixels at 60 frames per second.
but will need about 512 megabytes of memory.

Canon PowerShot A2000 has 10 megapixels.
The similar but more expensive PowerShot A2100 IS has 12.1 megapixels.

Canon PowerShot A1100 IS is very similar to my A710
but less expensive than the A2000.
The A1100 has 12.1 megapixels (my A710 has 7.1 megapixels).
Like the A710, it has a 115.000-pixels 2.5" LCD.
(Does not have aperture priority or shutter priority options.)
